Brushworks
Creating works in oil paint on canvas is my specialty. I love the texture and using a glazing technique to enhance my subjects. I also create Acrylic Paintings on textured watercolour paper, especially black and earthy coloured paper. I have a love for animals and nature, which inspires many of my works. Here are a few of my creations over the past twenty years.
Creating Acrylic Portraits on Paper
Lucy and Little
Acrylic on textured black watercolour paper.
Lucy and Little were created from two separate images. I can combine some
subjects from different images, alter colours or small elements in an image,
such as fur/feathers/hair length/and background. Or omit other elements.
This portrait is also finished with a matte glaze medium.
Bernie

I captured Bernie's expression one afternoon, looking out from the garden shed. A parrot suddenly flew over and squawked. Certain startling noises always annoyed him, which I can relate to. I'm not too keen on sudden load sounds either, but we loved observing the parrots. and all the birds that visited the garden.
I created his portrait mainly as a black and white, then added colour to his eyes for a dramatic effect.
Black Swans

Our beautiful Lake Wendouree, is
home to various wildlife. These pair of
Black Swans will mate for life. I observed them one late afternoon as the sun was setting behind them. They were sifting through the weeds on the shoreline of the lake. I wanted to capture this moment, the slight drip of water hanging from the bill, the golden feathered tips from the late afternoon sunlight, and the contrast of their feathers and surrounding water. Such beautiful graceful birds.
